IS SOCIAL MEDIA IMPORTANT FOR MARKETING?
Social media is here to stay
Social Media isn’t something to be taken as a fad. People in general want to share everything. We want to give our opinions on everything. We are also curios as to what other people have to say. What’s their favorite restaurant? Who’s dating who? Where did they get their new favorite pair of shoes?
Therefore, with everyone spending more and more time looking down at their phone instead of anywhere else. There is no debate, Social Media is the single most important place one can place their marketing strategy.
Where do you place your social media efforts?
It seems like every other day there is a new form of social media getting uploaded on our app stores. So how do you know where you are supposed to focus your time and money? The answer isn’t a simple one at all, although the most noteworthy would have to be Facebook ads.
This is where you can get the best return for your time and money. So, no matter what your product is make sure you are on Facebook. It is crazy to me that there are people out there who own or manage a business and don’t even have a Facebook account. Those are the business owners who are romantic with the way it used to be, consequently they will fail if they do not change.
Focus on more than one
While Facebook ads is best investment for social marketing, your focus shouldn’t only be on with those. The best way to figure out where to put your efforts is to always be testing. You will find that a specific product will have more engagement on Facebook than Pinterest. But if a different audience is targeted that same product might do better on Pinterest than Facebook.
It is very important when creating your campaign that your demographic fits the medium. If you wanted to just create brand awareness, with females between 14-24 driving them to your snapchat account would be a good place to go. That would be much more effective than trying to grab that same demographic on Pinterest.
Finally, everyone is trying to develop the next Facebook. As I said earlier, new apps and new networks are coming every day. The best piece of advice I can give is always be watching. Pay attention the App listing on the stores. Check the trending apps every day. You can see where specific ones are gaining traction. If you believe you would be able to market on those create an account. You don’t need to be active on them daily. Once a week would be enough to gauge the impact the medium is generating.
Experiment with trending social
Everything we do as marketers is going to be a test. We have to test before we can execute, otherwise we will be wasting our valuable time and money on something that isn’t at scale enough for us to benefit from. One of the best things you can do for your business is to watch the younger generation. If you know someone in the 18-24 demo, just simply ask them what they are active on. Ask them if their friends are on that platform as well. Find out from them how they use that medium to interact with those friends.
The thing about marketing on social is that it is the cheapest form of advertising right now. You will even see better results with Social than even Google AdWords. While you can’t completely quantify your results with something like Snapchat. You will be able to gauge the engagement of your audience. When you are looking at something like Snapchat you are working on building your brand. Snapchat filters are a great way to build awareness for your business.
